about

Originally released by Depeche Mode as a b-side of "Dreaming of Me" (1981/Mute Records)

Around the year of 1984 Depeche Mode became my first major favourite band, thanks to some people in my class. Even if I financially lacked the opportunity to buy records, I managed to collect most of their stuff anyway and was lucky to find a bunch of their earlier singles in London during a family vacation. Much later, DM released a 12" edition of "Blasphemous Rumours", containing some live tracks. Among them was a smashing, updated version of "Ice Machine" that instantly became a hit in my little world. Years and years later when I started messing with orchestral stuff in Morlocks, I got the idea to cover the song and bring it to another level. However, being the only one in the band with a deep nostalgia for Depeche Mode, I mothballed the idea for future use and during a brief period of spare time I started experimenting - resulting in the idea of this very solo project.

Trivia: The gurgling sound in the beginning is an actual sampled ice machine. I have to this very date still no idea what the lyrics are about or how they connect to the title, but it's a pretty song.
