Few people today remember Thompson Twins, which is sad. A lot of pop bands from the eighties are still played at clubs, some of them never quit and quite a few have reformed but these guys have been awfully quiet for reasons not known to me. I got 'Into the Gap' taped by a friend and it was played in my Walkman until the tape gave up and I had to find my own copy of the album. I'm afraid I don't know where it is today, but oh, did I admire that band's awesome hairstyles and their songs. There are not many bands that have understood that the marimba is the shit, after all. I chose this track because it suited the sound I wanted to capture and it is always fun to include ethnic stuff like the arabic flavours in the original. The lyrics are also important as ever, like if the twentyfive years between their and my version never happened.

Trivia: Right after the word "emotions" in the last verse, there is a faint sound I never programmed. One of my cats simply decided to open the door and enter the room during recording, announcing her presence the way cats do. The microphone caught it and I had to choose between a new take or keep it, since it merged with my vocals in a way I couldn't edit away. Of course I kept it.
