about

Originally released by Ultravox as a 7" single (1983/Chrysalis)

This little virtual record was actually supposed to contain only six tracks, but I felt the urge to wrap it up with something emotional and beautiful. I had this song in my mind off and then, but hesitated for the main reason that there was no way in hell I could even dream of singing it even close to the way Midge Ure did it 25 years ago. Mr Ure is in my opinion, along with Marc Almond of Soft Cell, one of the most talented singers of all time, and I know my limitations well enough not to even go there. However, a friend reminded me that the main reason of doing a cover is not to mimic the original but to make it your own. Hence, I transposed it and added a colder feeling, a sort of neo-folk-ish opening turning out to some orchestral breakouts before landing where it started.
